5 Things We Can Learn From Dogs to Make us Better Employees & People
Upward is a dog friendly business. We LOVE dogs. In fact, we prefer them. And whenever possible we bring our dogs to work.
I adopted my dog Oscar a little over a year ago and in that time, he’s taught me quite a few things. Here are the top five things I think we can learn from our dogs:
1. Remember to go for a walk.
We’re all a victim of looking at the clock and swearing that it was just 9 a.m. and now it’s 1 p.m. and time to kick it into high gear to finish out the day. But to really make the afternoon productive, there is nothing better than a nice walk, rain or shine, to clear your head, get some fresh air and get your creative juices flowing.
2. Get your paws dirty.
Whether it’s work or life, sometimes you should jump in feet first and get a little dirty. Getting your hands greasy, dirty or covered in paint can not only be freeing, but it can also help you realize you’re capable of more than you ever realized.
3. Always make time for play.
Too often we take ourselves a little too seriously, we get caught up in work and responsibilities and we forget to play. But play, whether you’re age 5 or 50, is always important. Try to take at least some time every day to play, whether it’s with your dog, your ferret, your friends, your kids, your spouse, or even (gasp!) your cat. You’ll be amazed at how rejuvenated you feel afterwards.
4. Be loyal and dependable.
We all love someone we can count on and who we can always trust. That's why we love coming home to see our favorite four-legged friend who we always know will be happy to see us. If we all provided even a fraction of the loyalty and dependability we get from our pups, imagine how secure it would make our friends, families and coworkers feel.
5. Forgive quickly.
Ever yelled at your dog for peeing in the house? Or maybe they chewed up your favorite slippers? After a little pouting your four-legged pal comes nuzzling back up next to you, right? They love you unconditionally and without words. Remember that love and forgiveness are sometimes better shown with actions.
At Upward, we’ve decided that dogs are unequivocally the best and we’re trying to be more like them where it counts. Learn more about Upward playfulness, loyalty and dependability by giving us a call.
